Happy Valentine's Day!

It's me Erica!! Just thought i'd post another entry highlighting the fabulous 3-day weekend we just enjoyed :)

We took Derek's 6th photo with his charger bear, and yes, he can sit up on his own now! I'm glad we kept this up. Just look at how much he's grown!! Everyone said they grow up so fast, but this is like lightning speed fast. We're enjoying the ride and loving every minute of it.

So happy belated valentine's day! And happy 4 day weekend! For me at least :)

I started my 4-day weekend dropping my parents off at the train station. The month-long babysitting stint came to an end and I was sad that they were headed home. It was fun having my parents around, they were able to experience Derek's adventures and it was fun coming home to my mom's stories about what he'd done that day.

Among the things that i'll miss are driving through the gate of our apartment complex and seeing Derek's and my mom's silouhettes as they looked out the window to wait for Dean and I to come home. It was nice getting to see Derek more instead of having to drive the extra hour to pick him up and bring him home. We were afforded the time to actually play with him in the afternoon when we got home. Monday nights were tv night. My mommy, Dean, and I would watch Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and The Bachelor while we ate dinner. And then American Idol on other nights. I called my mom last night and reminded her that The Bachelor was on and not to forget to watch it. :) Gotta love my mama.

So on Valentine's Day, as I was putting Derek in his car seat, he said "no mom!" haha :) i know he didn't know what he was saying but it came out soooo clear! He doesn't like being restrained his his car seat very much, so the "no mom!" came out at the perfect time as I was buckling him in, i was highly amused. We went to Cheesecake Factory for lunch:

first time in a high chair:
Then we headed to Dean's brother's house for Buenaventura afternoon. Dean's parents just came back from the PI, so we wanted to see how their trip was. It was a nice visit, Dean got to see the DVD of their appearance on wowowee. I missed it cause I was feeding Derek, but i'm sure i'll be seeing it sometime this week. We left just in time for Derek's bedtime and had a nice long sleep.

Sunday, we went to Ikea cause they had free breakfast and we wanted to check out the set of Malm drawers that would be on sale the next day to see if we wanted them. OMG breakfast was packed!! standing room only, you had to literally stand next to a table and wait for them to finish eating before you could sit down. we walked around some more and then went to costco to pick up some stuff and get Dean's tires rotated. We hung out at home for the rest of the evening and went to sleep early for our morning adventure at Ikea.

Monday was our big mission, to get those drawers at Ikea! we got there at 9 and there was already a line that wound around twice! I took Derek to Lowe's with me while Dean waited in line so we could look around and stay out of the cold weather. When we were all done, I walked outside and it was raining! So I walked as fast as I could, keeping Derek shielded from the rain and made it back to the Ikea line, where we waited for another half hour. They let us in at 10 and i swear the line had tripled in size by then. We happily got our drawers, paid, and headed upstairs for free breakfast (again). The rain really sucked so we headed home, where we hung out the rest of the day. Derek was down for a nap and Dean went into our garage to rummage around and find a bin with an exercise video that i wanted (thanks hun!). Thankfully, he found it and the rummaging wasn't for nothing. If you saw our garage, you'd understand ;)

A cute picture for good measure:
we didn't put him there, I swear!

ok that's it for now! see ya next time!

Happy Birthday Hunny!

Today is Erica's 28th Birthday (officially 10:09PM). Happy Birthday Hunny! Man I remember when she turned 21 and we went to Ralph's near UCSD at midnight so that Erica could make her first legal alcohol purchase. It was a small bottle of Kalua and Sour Apple Schnaps. Time is sure flying and we had an exciting day for her. The last couple of Birthday celebrations included us drunk. Things are different now and we have a little man to take care of. Maybe down the road when we can drink again.

The day started off by Erica feeding Derek at around 6AM. After he was finish eating, we brought Derek to Erica's parents(both our staying with us this week to spending time with Derek while we are at work) and all of us(including Derek...hehe) sang Happy Birthday. We then headed to work and I took Erica out to lunch for sushi at Yummi Makki near her work. They had this special where there 4th sushi roll was free. Our order included a California Beach, Pink, Mountain and another one that I forgot the name of. Man we were stuffed.
After work, we picked up some L&L's Hawaiian food for Erica's birthday dinner. We grabbed four lunch plates consisting of chicken katsu, moco loco(hamburger patties with an egg and gravy), kalua pig shavings and bbq short ribs. Overall, Erica had a great 28th Birthday. She got to spend time with Derek, her parents and I. Now we're finally the same age...that is until June 21st of this year.
One more thing. This weekend brought a couple of milestone for our little boy. He can sit up! Also, he outgrew his old car seat so we picked up a new one for him. Check out the pics! Enjoy!

Derek's 1st Word & Super Bowl Weekend

Before I get started on what we did this weekend, let me fill you guys in on Derek's first word: MOM. On Friday at around 6 PM, Erica, Derek and I were lying with him on the bed and while he was playing in his baby gym, he said the "mom." This was a very clear mom and not a babbling, mumbling version. We are looking forward to more words, including the word Dad/Daddy!

This weekend was Derek's first Super Bowl. Let me recap you guys on what we were up to this weekend. On Saturday, we woke up to our little boy lying on his tummy, talking in his crib. We're not sure how long he was awake but this was the first time that we saw him with his head up in his bed. He is usually on his back, kicking his legs around and staring at his mobile.
After we finally got out of bed, we took a stroll around our complex and across the street. We hit up Starbucks and headed inside Lowe's. After a couple of hours of walking, we headed back to the apartment for a quick rest and then went out for a quick trip to Otay Ranch & Eastlake in Chula Vista. We drove around the area and then stopped by Trader Joe's and Pat & Oscars for lunch/dinner. At Trader's, we bought some salad, bannanas and wasabi peas and at Oscar's, we got a chicken ceasar sandwich and some potato wedges. Afterwards, we headed home and ended the evening by watching Lakeview Terrace. That's a pretty interesting movie.

On Super Bowl Sunday, we started the day by heading to Ross to by a present for Erica's mom. After that, we went to Target where we got some really good deals on some storage ottomans. We got there at the right time because as soon we checked out, they were all sold out. The next stop was Vons, where we picked up our Super Bowl food (California Pizza Kitchen pizzas for half off!), some Vons Eating Rights and a few other groceries. We then headed home to watch the game. As for Derek's Super Bowl experience, he spent a good amount of time in his Excersaucer, baby gym and napping with mommy. The Steelers ended up winning the game 27-23 and towards the end of the game, Derek woke up from his 1 hour 45 minute sleep. I picked up Erica's mom from the Amtrak station and after Derek was out for the night, I took a jog. It was another chill weekend with the Sison-Buenaventura's.
